Peugeot 406 2.0 HDi 110 Raiper Estate review I bought my Peugeot 406 2.0 HDi 110 Raiper Estate second hand, just 23 months old with 15000 miles on the clock It was spacious, comfortable and a pleasure to drive. The 110bhp diesel engine was smooth and powerful with enough acceleration to overtake on winding Highland roads. Fully loaded you could not notice any difference in peformance. Then it started locking and unlocking the doors as I drove along. I took it back to the dealers who had it all day and said they fixed it. At 21000 miles it needed new tyres. At 25000 miles and first mot it needed anti roll bar ball joints, new back brake discs, calipers and pads, and a new exhaust (rear box). Just after the warranty ended the central locking started playing up
again, leaving me locked out and unable to open any locks with the key.
The barrels just revolved. After an hour in the rain I manage to open
the tail gate. Often I stopped and was unable to get out and I had to
drive around until it unlocked it self and stop and get out before it
locked again. The main dealer had 3 shots at fixing this problem 1 under
warranty and 2 more at £200 each. Next to go wrong was the front
brakes, another £400. In 32 months I did 25000 miles in this car
and it cost me £3000 and depreciated another £3500. I was
without a car for 8 days. I would never buy another peugeot. I would recommend a Skoda. my Fabia which replaced the 406 has been fantastic without the appetite for cash of the peugeot. |
