Opening Summer 2007
We have a good range of quality native
woodturning blanks. Including Ash, Oak, Beech, Cherry, Elm, Sycamore
and Chestnut. We often have recycled blanks inc. mahogany, teak
and beech. We usually have spalted beech and a selection of burrs.
All blanks are cut from logs that are stacked in shade for up to
a year to relieve stress prior to milling. Once milled, dry Sycamore
strips are used to seperate planks, thereby eliminating the problem
of staining.
The milled logs are then strapped to avoid
movement and stacked correctly in a large barn with space to allow
continuous airflow, facilitating the drying process.
The moisture content of our air dried
supply is reduced to approximately 22%. before kiln drying . After
kiln drying our woodturning bowl blanks are cut and the ends waxed
ready for turning.
We are not set up yet to supply mail-order,
but please feel free to come and browse our blank store, (please
phone first). In the near future we will be suppling wood turning
finishing products.
We are 17 miles south of Inverness at
Errogie on the Fort Augustus road
